About the Event

Catch Seamus Blake plays the music of Eddie Harris at the Rickshaw with Sam Yahhel, Tim Lefebvre and Corey Fonville.

New York based saxophonist/composer SEAMUS BLAKE is recognized as one of the finest living exponents of contemporary jazz. From his work with John Scofield, Dave Douglas & Gonzalo Rubalcaba to recent tours with Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, Seamus Blake has thrilled Jazz and Rock audiences all over the world in a wide array of musical projects. On November 02, Blake returns to his hometown of Vancouver, BC for a special performance featuring the music of Eddie Harris. Known for being a pioneer in instrumental innovation, Harris introduced the "electrified" saxophone to Jazz in the 1960's, and was known for his long-running collaboration with Les McCann. Harris compositions such as Freedom Jazz Dance are a staple at Jazz clubs to this day, and his performance of Compared to What is still considered the definitive version of that protest anthem. For this very unique performance at Vancouver's legendary Rickshaw Theatre, Seamus Blake will be joined by an amazing band featuring some of the American Jazz scene's heaviest heavy hitters: Sam Yahel on Organ, known for his work with Bill Frisell, Maceo Parker & Joshua Redman. Tim Levebre on bass, known for his work with David Bowie & Donny McCaslin. Corey Fonville on drums, known for his work with Logan Richardson & Christian Scott Atunde, in addition to leading his own band Butcher Brown. In addition, there will be an opening set by one of Canada's most exciting contemporary jazz-funk groups, the Mary Ancheta Quartet, led by Vancouver's Mary Ancheta on organ.

No refunds, unless event is cancelled. No exchanges.
