Join Audubon Everglades and birding expert Dr. Corey Callaghan for a unique field trip that blends science, nature, and exploration. This event includes both walking and driving through varied habitats, with a special detour to search for one of Florida’s rarest birds—the Red-cockaded Woodpecker.
Whether you're new to birding or already deep into your life list, this outing offers something for everyone—students, families, nature lovers, and anyone curious about Florida’s wild side.

- A guided walk and carpool drive through scenic, bird-rich terrain
- Fascinating bird facts and field insight from a professional scientist
- A chance to see uncommon species in a protected area
- An eBird trip list you can contribute to (bring your account info!)

- Carpool Required: Only 8 vehicles allowed on the property. Each should hold 4 people. If you're riding solo or in a small group, expect to join others or offer space in your vehicle.
- Passengers: Park at the entrance gate and join a car from there.
- Restrooms: May not be available unless it's hunting season (Sept 1–Mar 31).

- Registration is required.No walk-ins.
- Be on timeso we can make the most of our time in the field.
- Rain or shine, unless there's a hurricane.
- Photos may be takenfor social media. Let us know if you'd rather not be included.
- Please cancelif you can’t make it—someone else may be waiting.
- Under 18?Bring an adult.

About Your Guide
Dr. Corey T. Callaghan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida, based at the Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center in Davie, Florida. His research focuses on leveraging 'big data', often contributed through citizen science initiatives, to understand biodiversity in space and time, with an emphasis on how biodiversity responds to anthropogenic habitat modification. In his free time he can most often be found birding or iNatting. His favorite bird is a White Hawk!
