The Platters were the mostsuccessful singing group of the 1950's. Afive member vocal group made up of four men- lead vocalist Tony Williams, tenor David Lynch, baritone Paul Robi, bass Herbert Reed -and one woman, altoZola Taylor.The new Platters Live! consists of Elmer Armstrong Jr., lead tenorwho's been with the group since 1989 and took over tenor chores when Paul Robi passed away. Elmer hand-picked the members of the current Platters, starting with tenor singer, John Hopkins. John was brought into the group ni the summer of 1993 and possesses one of the smoothest tenor voices ni the business. Cristi Black, alto, the newest member of the group, was a background singer with the legendary Tom Jones for nine years. Peyce Byron,a dynamic vocalist, shares lead tenor chores with Elmer Armstrong, Jr.Having sold over 100 milion records, romance is what made The Platters universally appealing ni the '50s and still keeps them as populartoday. This CD contains four bonus tracks, wt o of which were co-written by Elmer Armstrong, Jr. ("Love Zone" and "Ms. Right Now"). The fourth track, "Talk To Me", was originally recorded as a national radio spot for York Health Systems.
