About the Event
Janus Theatre starts its 27th season with its Read not Dead series featuring scripts in hand performances from famous dead playwrights.
Janus Theatre Company opens its 27th season with the The Ibsen Project: Hedda.
Featuring Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen in a Read Not Dead, Page To Stage, Scripts in Hand Production. In this classic story, Hedda returns from her honeymoon with new husband George Tesman. Struggling with her disappointing marriage and life devoid of excitement, Hedda strives to find a way to fulfill her desires by resisting her stifling situation.
For an added twist, each performance will feature a different translation of the play.
This production is part of this year's Season of Outsiders - and features classic stories from the past brought to life for today's audience. The production is sponsored in part by the City of Elgin and Elgin Cultural Arts Commission.
Running Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm, June 27 and 28. And on Sunday, June 29 at 6pm.
The performances are instinctive, adrenaline driven and inventive. Actors and audiences alike share in the excitement of reviving these rarely produced plays that definitely deserve to be Read Not Dead.
The play is directed by Sean Hargadon. Stage managed by Elizabeth Dawson.
The cast features Aaron Hoge, Heidi Swarthout,David Korzatkowski, Doreen Dawson, Julie Bayer, R. Scott Purdy, Jennifer Reeves Wilson, and Tiffany Jasinski.
What is a Read Not Dead, Page To Stage, Scripts in Hand Production? It's an idea loosely lifted from the Globe Theatre where actors get together for a (very) short time to read, rehearse and present a play in performance using scripts in hand. It's exhilarating, energizing and can be totally spontaneous.
