YOI TOKI:
A FUTURE FUNK NEW YEARS EVE
FT. SAINT PEPSI (aka SKYLAR SPENCE)
YOI TOKI (GOOD TIMES) returns to Los Angeles, Wednesday, December 31st.. this NEW YEARS EVE, and we're proud to welcome one of the originators of Future Funk, SAINT PEPSI
Saint Pepsi is a pioneering figure in the future funk movement — blending nostalgic 80s grooves, vaporwave aesthetics, and glossy pop sensibility into an irresistible cocktail of euphoria. Emerging from the internet’s underground scene in the early 2010s, Saint Pepsi quickly became a cult favorite with his sample-rich, dance-floor-ready sound that reimagines vintage soul and disco through a hyper-modern lens. Known for hits like “Enjoy Yourself” and his vibrant live sets that feel equal parts retro fever dream and neon-lit rave, he’s helped define the carefree yet emotionally resonant vibe of future funk. Whether behind the decks or crafting lush edits in the studio, Saint Pepsi continues to evolve — effortlessly bridging nostalgia and innovation with every beat.
Future Funk is a Vaporwave subgenre that emerged around 2010 (championed by artists such as Yung Bae, Night Tempo and Macross 82-99) it uses elements of Funk and Disco combined with Japanese City Pop influences, resulting in a sound that is upbeat, insanely danceable and very funky. Future Funk's aesthetic is a mix of nostalgic influences such as 90s anime and '80s consumer culture. The fact that it is derived from Vaporwave goes some way in explaining the familiar and yet strangely unique sound and visuals
