About the Event

Attend this in-depth lecture on New Urbanism on the campus of Cornell University followed by a dinner at the Statler Hotel

The 1-hour lecture on New Urbanism, Past, Present, & Future, 1AIA LU/HSW, will be held at Martha Van Rensselaer Hall room G151. The lecture will be followed by a plated dinner and our AIA SNY Annual Meeting. At the dinner, there will be an opportunity to meet and converse with our guest lecturer, Rob Steuteville. Rob has been the premier journalistic voice for The New Urbanism movement for three decades. The dinner will be held in the Castello Banfi dining room at the Statler Hotel on the Cornell campus.

Learning Objectives:

-Define what New Urbanism is as a movement and the Congress for the New Urbanism

-Recognize the broad trends of the history of rapid urbanization in the United States, followed by mass suburbanization, and the response and environmental benefits to re-urbanize, including the social, physical, and emotional well-being of these exterior environments.

-Understand the challenges that exist in creating walkable communities to improve health and safety.

-Explain what urbanism means to major issues of the day, including climate change, housing, and health.
