The Afro-Canadian Visual Art Fair will be held from Thursday May 8th to May 11th 2025

Theme: Racines

The exhibition RACINES, presented by Mosaïque Interculturelle brings together a selection of contemporary African-Canadian artists from various disciplines, including Héritier Bilaka (Ottawa), Kezna Dalz (Montreal), Taïna Mueth (Montreal), Garfield Morgan (Edmonton), Obasola (Ottawa), Stevenson Valentin (Gatineau), Colas Eko (Montreal), and Yomi Orimoloye (Ottawa). Their varied practices—painting, photography, installations, and multimedia collages—illustrate the richness and diversity of Afro-descendant artistic expression in Canada.

The exhibition also pays tribute to a leading figure in Canadian animation, filmmaker Martine Chartrand, whose film Âme noire remains an iconic and memorable work. This film will be shown on a loop during the exhibition in partnership with the National Film Board.

The exhibition will also feature a space dedicated to ancestral African art, presented in collaboration with AfroMusée. It features archetypes from the Kingdom of Kouba, located in the heart of what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo, thus providing a link between cultural heritage and contemporary creation.
