About the Event
The Job Instruction Workshop is an intensive, hands-on program that teaches how to rapidly and effectively train new employees for any role.
Workshop Summary - Job Instruction Workshop: Train the Trainer
Overview: The Job Instruction (JI) Workshop teaches participants how to break down a job and deliver training in a way that accelerates learning, reduces errors, and builds standardized work from the ground up. Participants learn how to prepare, present, and coach job tasks so that team members can perform them safely, correctly, and conscientiously—every time.
Historical Roots: Job Instruction is one of the original pillars of the Training Within Industry (TWI) program launched by the U.S. War Department in the 1940s. During World War II, it enabled American factories to rapidly train millions of new workers—many with no industrial experience—while maintaining quality, productivity, and safety. After the war, TWI spread globally, and its methods were adopted and refined by Toyota as part of the Toyota Production System.
Key Topics:
- History and impact of TWI and Job Instruction
- Four-step method for effective on-the-job training
