About the Event
A comprehensive overview of the life and music of the Nobel laureate.
With the release in late 2024 of the biopic A Complete Unknown, Bob Dylan is back in the news. But in a way, he never left. His sixty-four year professional career continues, from his early folk classics like "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are A-Changin'" through his transition to rock music and "Like A Rolling Stone"; from his sudden disappearance from public life following a 1966 motorcycle accident to his return as a countrified family man; from his mid-seventies masterpiece Blood on the Tracks to his sudden conversion to evangelical Christianity; through his shape-shifting 1980s recordings to his 1990s 'comeback' with Time Out Of Mind; from 'the Never-Ending Tour' to the Nobel Prize in Literature, to late-career gems like his 2020 album Rough and Rowdy Ways, Dylan has always defied expectations and represented the very best in contemporary songwriting. He is universally acknowledged as pop music's greatest lyricist and one of the most beloved musicians of all time.
Dr. Mike Daley, whose Master's Thesis on Dylan won the York Thesis Prize, presents a six-week lecture series on the Bard of Hibbing's life and music, covering his many stylistic shifts, lyrical and musical innovations and singular career. The lectures, about an hour in length followed by questions, will take place in-person at Church of the Redeemer (Bloor and Avenue), as well as live on Zoom, and videos of the lectures will be available afterwards for unlimited viewing at any time (the Zoom and video links are available anywhere in the world with an internet connection). You're not locked into one or the other - you can choose between any of the three ways of viewing the lecture each week, whichever suits your schedule or preference. Within a day or so of the lecture, a link to the lecture video will be sent to the email address with which you purchased the series. This link will not expire.
You can purchase the series of six lectures for $84 plus tax and ticketing fee, or tickets for single lectures will be available at the door for $20, cash only.
