Foundations of Safety Planning in Family Violence: Focus on Tech Abuse Considerations
Participatory Workshop
Topics Include:
- Types of abuse, power dynamics and coercive control tactics
- Barriers to leaving or accessing supports: the role of stigma, shame and guilt
- When and how to use safety planning; taking a client-centred approach
- Safety Planning vs Risk Assessments, and how they fit together
- Safety planning as Harm Reduction: 'Safety When Staying'
- Technology Abuse in Stalking and Tracking-considerations and resources
With activities, discussions, and case study built into the core of our Intro to Family Violence training, this workshop will help service providers develop their skills in Safety Planning with clients experiencing family violence. No prerequisite training or background required, it is open to anyone who is interested in getting more comfortable and familiar with this work.
