About the Event
We love local in this special community collaboration concert that celebrates Etobicoke.
Come celebrate Etobicoke with us in this special collaboration with the Etobicoke Historical Society, featuring the Local Vocals pop-up choir and Etobian composers.
Artefacts on display will include a cannon ball from the War of 1812, so of course we'll play Tchaikovsky's thrilling 1812 Overture.
We open with Etobian Gary Kulesha's joyful Celebration Overture, a piece we premiered back in 1985.
South Etobicoke's Local Vocals choir joins us for a selection of songs including the jaunty Log Driver's Waltz and Mimico resident Oscar Peterson's Hymn to Freedom. (That Hymn inspired our full 'docu-concert' coming February 1).
As we play Mozart's Paris Symphony (No. 31), consider it was captivating Europe when this area was Adobigok - "where the alders grow" - home to the Mississaugas of the Credit.
