Old Scrooge (1913) And A Dog's Life (1918), Played By Ken Double

December 16, 2025

Celebrate the season at Silent Movie Mondays with a special double feature! Old Scrooge, starring Seymour Hicks, is a British film adaptation of the timeless holiday tale A Christmas Carol. It originally premiered in the UK in 1913 as 'Scrooge' and began playing across the pond with its new title in 1926. A Dog's Life is a heartwarming short film featuring Charlie Chaplin as his famous ?tramp? character. Frequent collaborator Edna Purviance plays his leading lady, but Chaplin's true onscreen support is Scraps, the titular canine companion. This is just one screening in our Silent Movie Mondays series at the Balboa Theatre. Join us at this historic theatre and be transported back a century ago, when audiences cheered, the organ roared to life, and silent films glow on the big screen. Learn more at sandiegotheatres.org.
