About the Event
Vernissage
This opening vernissage event introduces two innovative exhibitions, presented by the Isenberg Lab at the Bruyère Health Research Institute and the Ottawa Art Gallery, that invite viewers to reflect and consider what it means to “die well”.
The Art of a Good Death includes a collection of works selected from a national art competition with the goal of translating the academic literature and research on what it means to have a “good death” into art. From over 100 entries, 6 artists from four provinces across Canada are featured.
Roots of Wisdom presents the first of a two-phase interactive installation of a tree sapling that invites viewers to participate and reflect on how values, goals, and meaning affect end-of-life decision-making.
This event will feature a roundtable discussion with the artists and caregiver partners with lived experience, facilitated by Drs. Sarina Isenberg and Rebecca McGuire-Snieckus of the Bruyère Health Research Institute. Light refreshments will be provided.
These exhibitions are made possible by a Canadian Institutes of Health Research Planning and Dissemination Grant (Art of a Good Death) and a Social Sciences and Humanities Insight Development Grant (Roots of Wisdom).

Le Laboratoire Isenberg de l'Institut de recherche Santé Bruyère et la Galerie d'art d'Ottawa présentent ce vernissage de deux expositions novatrices qui invitent les spectateurs et spectatrices à réfléchir à ce que signifie de « bien mourir ».
L'Art de bien mourir rassemble des œuvres issues d'un concours national d'arts visuels dans le but de traduire en art la littérature académique sur ce qui signifie une « bonne mort ». Parmi plus que cent candidatures, six artistes provenant de quatre provinces du Canada ont été retenus pour cette exposition.
Les Racines de la sagesse présente la première phase d'une installation interactive qui met en scène un jeune arbre qui invite les spectateurs et spectatrices à participer et à réfléchir à la façon dont leurs valeurs, leurs objectifs et le sens qu'ils accordent à la vie influencent les décisions en fin de vie.
Cet événement propose une table ronde avec les artistes et les aidantes ayant une expérience vécue, animée par les Drs Sarina Isenberg et Rebecca McGuire-Snieckus de l'Institut de recherche Santé Bruyère. Des rafraîchissements légers seront servis.
L'art de bien mourir a été rendu possible grâce à une subvention de planification et dissémination par les Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada et Les Racines de la sagesse bénéficie d'une subvention de développement Savoir du Conseil de recherches en sciences humaines.
