About the Event

This workshop is designed for those who shape the earliest chapters of a child's life.

The first steps in a child's learning journey begin long before walking. Research shows that babies who hear songs, stories, and affirmations from birth develop stronger language skills, deeper bonds with caregivers, and a lifelong love of learning.

In this one-time workshop, Birthing the Magic Collaborative partners with Book Harvest to celebrate the power of oral traditions and early literacy. Together we'll explore how lullabies, cultural storytelling, and books nurture both brain development and emotional well-being.

This workshop is designed for those who shape the earliest chapters of a child's life: parents seeking tools and encouragement, grandparents guiding with wisdom, doulas preparing families, and the nurses and doctors who serve as trusted messengers for new parents.

About Book Harvest
Book Harvest is a Durham, NC children's literacy nonprofit working so every child grows up with an abundant home library and parents feel supported as a child's first teacher. Since 2011, they've provided more than 2.8 million books to families. Their programs include Book Babies, a five-year, evidence-informed coaching partnership with families of Medicaid-eligible children beginning at birth, and Books from Birth, which partners with hospitals and home visitors to send newborns home with a starter set of 10 board books.
